I am pleased to share with you the wisdom of NCAA Division 1 Men's Tennis Coach of the University of South Florida, Ashley Fisher.

Ashley Fisher was named the head coach of the USF men's tennis program in July 2016 after serving as the assistant coach for one season. Fisher joined the USF men’s tennis program in 2016 after a long career as a touring professional, television broadcaster and coach.

Interview With Oklahoma State Women's Tennis Coach

Welcome to Interview #28.

I am pleased to share with you the wisdom of Director of Tennis and Head Women's Tennis Coach of Oklahoma State University, Chris Young.

Chris Young is entering his seventh season as the head coach of the Oklahoma State women’s tennis program.

A native of Norman, Oklahoma, Young has compiled a career record of 276-154, directing the OSU women and the men’s and women’s programs at both Wichita State and his alma mater, Oklahoma Christian. Young now holds an 86-56 record with the Cowgirls.

Under Young, the Cowgirls have made four-straight trips to the NCAA tournament and two appearances in the Big 12 finals. In 2015, the Cowgirls made their first appearance in the NCAA Sweet 16 since 1996.

During the 2015 season, OSU’s women’s program rose to new heights, finishing the season 23-6. The Cowgirls took down 14 ranked opponents and notched 15 shutout wins.

Young earned accolades for himself as he was named the 2015 ITA Central Region Head Coach of the Year.

Interview With Broward College Women's Tennis Coach

I am pleased to share with you the wisdom of NJCAA Women's Tennis Coach of Broward College, Marlena Hall.

Marlena Hall, an ’09 graduate of Barnard College at Columbia University, was named Broward College’s Head Coach of Women’s Tennis in 2009.

In addition to Hall’s academic and athletic accolades at Columbia, she has worked for the Delray Beach International Tennis Championships (ITC), (the world’s only combined men’s professional ATP Champions Tour and ATP World Tour event) from 2007 to the present.

“I’m in a unique position where I can offer young women the golden opportunity to go to college and play college tennis, women who may have been discouraged or unable to due to financial reasons,” Hall says.

Coach Connell has been the Men’s and Women’s Head Tennis Coach at Tyler Junior College since 2011. At Tyler Coach Connell has won 3 National Championships, 2 with the women (2012 and 2013) and 1 with the men (2013). Coach Connell was named the 2014 Wilson/ITA NJCAA National Women's Coach of the Year and the 2014 USPTA National College Coach of the Year.

Interview With Barry University Women's Tennis Assistant

I am pleased to share with you the wisdom of NCAA Division 2 Assistant Tennis Coach, Maria Lopez of Barry University.

Maria Lopez has been the assistant women’s tennis coach at Barry University since 2012. Barry University is a powerhouse in women’s tennis. In Coach Lopez’s three seasons the women’s tennis team has compiled an incredible 79-4 record, one National Championship and two Runner up seasons.

Coach Lopez is responsible for on-court coaching, player development, recruiting and administrative duties.

In 2012 and2013, Lopez was named the Intercollegiate Tennis Association National Assistant Coach of the Year.

I am excited to present to you NCAA Division 1 Women’s Tennis Coach, Mark Tjia of the University of Alabama Birmingham. This is our second video interview. It is fantastic. Coach Tjia has a wealth of information to share with us.

Coach Tjia is a veteran tennis coach with over 20 years of coaching experience. He has spent the past 5 years in the college ranks. Before that Coach Tjia’s resume includes being a Head Tennis Professional at the 300 Swim and Tennis Club, coaching on the WTA tour and playing professionally on ATP Pro Circuit.

Profile:Mark Tjia-WT Coach

Mark Tjia, a veteran tennis coach with over 20 years of coaching experience at multiple levels, was named UAB's head women's tennis coach on Jan. 17, 2014.  Prior to joining the Blazers, Tjia (pronounced "chia") spent 3.5 years as the men's assistant tennis coach at his alma mater, TCU.  He played for three top-10 Horned Frog teams between 1989 and 1992, including the 1989 squad that reached the semifinal round at the NCAA Championships and the 1992 that was ranked a program high #2.  As the TCU assistant, Tjia coached multiple players to All MWC and All Big 12 honors, and was named the 2012-13 ITA Texas Region Assistant Coach of the Year.  He also played an instrumental role in helping the Horned Frogs to one of the top home-court advantages in the nation as TCU placed No. 1 in the ITA Fan Attendance Race.

Tjia joined TCU after serving as the Head Tennis Professional at the 300 Swim & Tennis Club in Gainesville, Fla., since 1997. In 2010, he was a volunteer coach for the Lady Gator women's tennis team that reached the final round at the NCAA Team Championship.  Affectionately known by his players as "Chief", Coach Tjia competed for several years on the ATP pro circuit achieving a world ranking of No. 589 in singles.  After his playing days, he served as a coach to world #60 Shaun Stafford as he coached and travelled on the WTA Tour, and later wrote and published the book "Loving the Battle!" - Tips to Improve Your Tennis Performance. Mark is married to the former Jenna Blythe and they reside in Birmingham, Alabama with their 2 dogs, Kimo and Sabe.
